4 Actions To Move On in 2019 – One Day At The Time!
A new year begins. It’s (still) time to leave everything behind that no longer serves you, to make space and to move on. No matter where you are on the globe, if it’s summer or winter, time remains the same and we can’t stop it. January it is (again!) for all of us.
I’m not a big fan of new years resolutions. Are you? We say that if the intention is good. . . But let’s be honest, resolutions usually (or too often) stay at the planing phase. We are all on the same boat on this one. But we are humans and some things never change, (I’m working on it!) and I feel for a challenge, do you?
Let’s try to integrate 4 simple actions in our daily routine for the next 4 weeks. Hey !I hear you! Yes, everyday. No excuse, everyone can do it. Instructions are simple ; It is not a question of how long you do it, as long as you just do it.
Are you ready?
4, 3, 2, 1, go!
1. Just breathe
Do you forget to breathe too? When someone ask me “Why do you practice yoga?” my answer is simple : yoga has taught me how to breathe. Through the nose and into every part of my body. My breath calms and balances me on and off my mat. Breath is life. It deserves our attention. Just be aware of it, everyday.
Too easy? Let’s incorporate a 5-minutes breathing exercise into our morning routine. Choose a comfortable position either standing ( Mountain Pose for example) or seating. Now breathe in, breathe out and repeat.
2. Step on your mat
Yogis, step on your mat! No matter why you practice, do it! Have you ever regretted a yoga practice? My motivation is to reach the state of well being post practice. I just love it. Asana practice balances me and makes me feel good. My mat is my sacred space. The goal here is not to go through 30 Power Flow classes, but to develop a little more your personal practice. It can be at home, at the office or anywhere.
For the next 30 days, practice as often as possible. You don’t have time? Really? Integrate at least one asana and you should feel benefits. My challenge is to practice 3 sun salutations A every morning. What is your goal?
3. Look into the eyes
Our eyes spend a lot of (too much?) time focusing on a screen. In January, it’s time to give them back some love. Think about it, at the end of a typical day how many eyes have you really paid attention to? Walking on the street, waiting for the bus, at the market, which eyes do you remember? Were they blue, brown? For me, eyes are the mirror of soul and emotions. It’s a powerful connection. They talk. I know that mine talk a lot. They can’t lie. Here, your mission is simple. For the next days, give a special importance to eye contact. Look into your neighbors, your colleagues eyes and connect. And do not forget your own eyes. Take a few seconds to look into your eyes. Now, notice the reactions. How do you feel?
4. Open your heart
Yogis, it is the perfect time of the year to open our hearts! Let’s be ready to welcome the New Year and all that will happen. We’ll have ups and downs. When you don’t feel good, remember it’s a cycle and nothing lasts forever! Let’s make room for new and be grateful to be ourselves but also to BE. Mission is simple; listen to your heart. To its own rhythm. Listen to what it has to say. Guess what, it’s never wrong. The Yoga practice is a wonderful tool to open your heart, remember to incorporate at least one backbend, which makes you feel good in your routine. Take time to feel the benefits of a few Cat, Sphinx, Bridge, Camel, Wheel Poses or any asana that suits you. Go slowly into the pose, connect to your heart and…breathe.
That’s it yogis! Can you accomplish these 4 simple actions everyday for the next 30 days? Do you accept the challenge? Take notes and le’ts keep in touch to share our experience at the end of this month.
Have a very happy new year and a great month of January!
